Manufacturing & Industry
Glynn County has long been home to a diverse and vibrant manufacturing sector - a fact historically attributable to its natural deepwater harbor, proximity of overseas shipping lanes and convergence of navigable rivers. While these amenities remain ever-important in the present day, the addition of rail, interstate and commercial air transit have further fueled the growth and expansion of the area's manufacturing businesses. Not surprisingly, the manufacturing businesses that initially proliferated in the community had deep roots in the timber / forest products sector as well as in seafood harvesting and processing. And while numerous businesses operating within these sectors still exist in Glynn County today, they have been supplemented in recent years by manufacturers involved in the production of aircraft, maritime vessels, vehicles, chemical supplies and construction materials. While disparaging news concerning the health of the US manufacturing sector has been plentiful in recent years, Glynn County has taken heart in the fact that its manufacturing and industrial support businesses are thriving. In fact, of the community's fifteen largest employers, some eleven are manufacturing-related.
