Glynn County is governed by seven elected commissioners who then employ a county administrator.
The City of Brunswick, the county's only incorporated area, is managed by an elected mayor and four commissioners, who appoint a city manager.
The communities of St. Simons Island, Sea Island and Little St. Simons Island (a private resort) are under the jurisdiction of the county.
Jekyll Island is a state park and operates under the administration of the Jekyll Island Authority, a state-appointed board.
Both county and city governments are responsive to the needs of the community, businesses and industries and are dedicated to the implementation of long-term improvements in the infrastructure. This commitment has been affirmed and reinforced by the passage of a special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) that will provide nearly $20 million for upgrades to sewer and drainage systems, recreation areas and other on-going community improvements.
A tentative operating agreement by and between the City of Brunswick and Glynn County and Brunswick-Glynn County Joint Water and Sewer Commission in December 2006 was entered into for the purpose of creating a single, unified water and wastewater system to enhance the overall efficiency and service to public and private customers by avoiding duplication of resources, to ensure the availability of resources, and to serve future growth within the City and County.
