Primary & Secondary

The Glynn County School System creates places of learning where more than 12,000 students attend school. Wanting each student to find success, the school system welcomes and encourages parents and the community to be a vital part of the school experience.

Focusing on the progress of each school and every student enabled 266 out of 272 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) subgroups to meet and exceed AYP performance objectives for 2009, equating to a 98% success rate.

AYP is the barometer of success for public schools in Georgia. For 2010, nothing short of all schools making AYP is the goal.

Glynn County's classrooms are MAGIC, literally. Making Achievement Gains In Classrooms (MAGIC) is the acronym for a proven four-step model based on nine-week instructional periods:

• Identifying standards by grade, subject and nine-week instructional period;
• Pre-testing and analysis of data;
• Differentiation of instruction, support for staff and good teaching;
• Post-testing and analysis of data.

Test scores on state-mandated test have risen sharply after a few short years of MAGIC and high school graduation rates have improved.

Thanks to community support for Education Special Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) in 2006 a number of local projects were created. Among these were two new middle schools, renovations to Glynn Academy and the construction of the Golden Isles Career Academy (GICA). Glynn County voters have also approved an E-SPLOST II which is a continuation of the E-SPLOST. E-SPLOST II proposed expenditures include a new middle school, high school, Glynn Academy transformation and a coastal community center for the arts.

With two high schools, four middle schools, ten elementary schools and four special programs to ensure student success, the Glynn County School System is southeast Georgia's largest public school system. With a visionary Board of Education, innovative school administrators and highly qualified classroom teachers, the sky is the limit for public education in Glynn County.
